"Quadron" is a pleasure from beginning to end. The beautiful, saucy, lispy voice of Coco—the band’s front woman—lingers like white smoke from genre to genre: Soul, Motown, R&B, Jazz, Electro-whatever. All of these and none of these. The styles are recognizable, and yet reinvented and youthful, as though each had been given a second chance at life in order to improve itself. "Quadron" is the best of every one of its influences. Far from derivative tribute, Quadron produces music that comes from the souls and personalities of its parents, Coco and Robin.
"Quadron" is the self-titled debut of a Denmark duo springing from the collective known as the Boom Clap Bachelors. The album is purposefully and expertly sparse, and yet full of subtle, rich texture. All the while Coco’s vocals maintain a tremendously free feeling of Jazz-like spontaneity. Every track feels hand crafted and paid attention to by its artists. When listening to "Quadron" you get the sense that you are not just encountering music. You are encountering people. And they’re people you want to know more. Coco dominates the album with a unique, cool presence that is self-assured but completely honest, and at times willing to be vulnerable. She radiates. A woman of tremendous strength, who gets up after being knocked down, hits back when necessary, sings through tears, and laughs with her friends. The vitamin-boost matron saint of the neo-soul scene. You won’t be able to leave this album alone after just one listen.
Amidst all the chaos, life is a little better knowing Quadron exists.

The Swedish electro-soul combo, Little Dragon, offers a synthetic/organic contrast in its self-titled debut album. Yukimi Nagano’s personal, raw and intimately milky-textured vocals criss-cross and float over the electric neon beats of Erik Bodin, creating a haunting, sometimes surreal experience. The album emerged out of what started out as a purely personal project of exploration. The four high school friends rallied and rapped off each other’s musical material, while living in the myth-enshrouded Seal Colonie, a large space near the Gothenburg Central Station. And while they didn’t turn into seals, as the myth would have it, an animal of a different breed was born.
"Little Dragon" is, at times, explosive, serene, contemplative, and wonderfully moody, scaling the heights and depths of emotion. “Place to Belong” starts out romping and peppy with wonderfully retro-electronic life, like an old Nintendo game. When Nagano’s voice dips into the mix, she pulls it all out and into a new realm. The music fades and swells into a dark electro swirl. One of the album’s highlights is “After the Rain.” Yukimi’s voice galvanizes with fiery emotion, for which she earned the nickname, little dragon, after which the band was named. “Stormy Weather” is wonderfully un-stormy. Håkan Wirenstrand trickles out the notes on his keyboard like raindrops, wet and fresh, as Nagano lulls and swirls serenely through the track, like the calm after the storm. "Little Dragon" pleases with dual vocal chords of circuitry and veins.
